Nicola Blackwood MP was first elected in 2010. She is Parliamentary Private Secretary to Matthew Hancock MP, Minister for Energy and Enterprise (2013-) and a senior member of the influential Home Affairs Select Committee (2010-). She was also previously Vice Chairman of the Conservative Party from 2010-2013.
Nicola was born in Johannesburg in 1979 to a South African nurse and an English cardiologist who were working at Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto but the young family soon returned to the UK. Her parents worked for nearly 30 years in the NHS giving her first hand knowledge of some of the challenges facing our health service.
